Tanmani (तन्मणी) – A Timeless Icon of Maharashtrian Gold Jewellery

Tanmani (तन्मणी) – A Timeless Icon of Maharashtrian Gold Jewellery

Tanmani is a timeless expression of Traditional Maharashtrian Jewellery, deeply rooted in heritage and elegance. Originating in India, particularly in Maharashtra, this exquisite ornament reflects the richness of Maharashtrian gold jewellery traditions while continuing to inspire modern interpretations through imitation jewellery.

A classic Tanmani features a striking central pendant, often adorned with diamonds or vibrant gemstones, gracefully connected with strings of luminous pearls on either side. This central motif, known as the khod, forms the soul of the design—symbolising grace, balance, and intricate craftsmanship. The delicate arrangement of pearls enhances its regal charm, making it a beloved adornment for every Maharashtrian woman.

Historically, Tanmani rose to prominence during the Peshwa era, where it became a symbol of status, culture, and refined aesthetics. Today, while traditional gold Tanmani designs continue to hold their legacy, imitation jewellery versions have made this iconic piece more accessible—allowing modern women to embrace heritage with affordability and versatility.

Whether styled for weddings, festive occasions, or contemporary ethnic looks, Tanmani remains a signature piece in the world of Maharashtrian gold jewellery and imitation Marathi jewellery—where tradition meets timeless beauty.
