Kolhapuri Saaj is a sacred traditional Marathi jewellery design often regarded as a form of Mangalsutra. Known as Kolhapuri Saaj across Maharashtra and Oveer Saaj in rural regions, it is made from 124 individual elements featuring auspicious motifs such as Chafekali, Bel leaves, the Sun, fish, peacock feathers, tiger claws, conch, chakra, serpent, tortoise, and protective amulets.

These symbolic elements, known as Panadya, are strung together with a central Saaj Ghat pendant adorned with a red stone. Even today, many married women wear the Kolhapuri Saaj when their regular black-beaded Mangalsutra is temporarily removed.
